| Supply and demand |
Every day huge amounts of fresh fruit and vegetables are sold at the market; they come from all over the world and from all parts of Germany, including of course the produce grown locally in and around Hamburg. In addition to fruit and vegetables other types of food are sold in the hall, so that retailers can buy a large portion of their fresh produce here.
The wholesale market supplies Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, parts of Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with fresh produce, especially fruit and vegetables. But shipments are also despatched to North, Central and Eastern Europe.
|
| Infrastructure |
Infrastructure at the wholesale market is excellent. The motorway junction is just the other side of the bridge across the Elbe, a mere 500 metres away. Several customs entrances allow access to the free port, which is only 1 kilometre away from the wholesale market.

The entire range of services connected with the distribution of food is available. The firms based at the market are highly competitive thanks to their customer friendly attitudes and the latest standards in logistics and services.
